BENIRRAS Beach is Favourite Holidays in Ibiza

Benirras, in the north of Ibiza, is about as far as you can get from the fevered fleshpots of San Antonio. Here, at the end of a long and winding mountain road, lies a perfect slice of sand, bookmarked by cliffs and overlooking a deep, calm bay. In the 1960s, Benirras became infamous as the scene of drug-fuelled orgies. Today, it attracts a stylish mix of young Spaniards, Italians and Swedes, though the hippie vibe remains; each day, the mellow sunset is hailed by a chorus of bongo-players. Benirras has been protected from hotel developers, but there are several upmarket villas nearby, including one owned by a DJ, which has six bedrooms, a private pool, a music room and a sundeck.

Looking at present-day Kusadasi, it’s hard to believe it started out as a small fishing village. Over time it has transformed into one of the Aegean’s classiest, most lively resorts.



Situated amid a spectacular scenery, on Turkey’s western coast, Kusadasi is overflowing with tourists and cruise liners that often stop here during their journeys around the world. Favorite US Beach Destinations

A beach vacation offers everything from fun in the surf and sand to breath taking sunrises and sunsets, great for a summer vacation or escaping winter doldrums.

Here are two of my favorite beach vacation spots:

Myrtle Beach South Carolina

I love renting a condo right on the beach, it's well worth the extra cash. I also try to find a condo or rental that always features a swimming pool that comes in handy for taking breaks from the pounding surf. With a night walk along the beach you will find others enjoying the evening on the beach as well so it is very easy to meet new people and friends. The beach does tend to be a bit crowded at times but still worth the trip. For those into saltwater fishing you will find many fishing charter options available to you.

There is plenty of night life and good restaurants for great dining during the evening hours. If your into golf make sure to bring your clubs, Myrtle Beach has numerous world championship golf courses for your enjoyment. I usually stay on the southern end of what is referred to the Grand Strand. If you would like to avoid the crowds consider visiting after labor day when the crowds have diminished and the kids are back in school.

Sanibel and Captiva Islands Florida

A couple of years back I was lucky enough financially to be able to rent a luxury home for a month on Sanibel island. If you like a relaxed laid back casual atmosphere this is the place to be. The two islands offer plenty of great beaches with Sanibel being a haven for seashell lovers and collectors. There are only a handful of hotels on the islands but a quick search on the web will find you plenty of vacation rentals.

The two islands located right off the coast of Fort Meyers have plenty of restaurants that offer everything from pizza to gourmet meals and the dress is casual. There are miles and miles of bicycle and walking paths on the islands so if you love walking, jogging or cycling you can enjoy this uncrowded option. Florida is ver hot and humid in the summer months so consider it an option for a winter or spring vacation. The island temperatures are usually a few degrees colder than the main land. If you like breathtaking beach sunsets Sanibel and Captiva Islands have plenty of them.

For the avid angler, there are few experiences that can match the thrill of landing a trophy fish while surrounded by beautiful scenery and pristine waters. The Caribbean in summer? It's a more appealing option than you might think, especially if you're looking for a bargain vacation this year. Here are a few reasons:

1. Prices are lower, with some hotels and resorts cutting as much as 60 percent off their winter rates.

2. Temperatures are typically only a few degrees higher than they are in the peak travel months of January through March. And they can be even lower than you'll find at popular beach spots back in the United States. (For example, last Sunday, the temperature hit 93 in New York; it was 88 in Montego Bay, Jamaica and 88 on St. Lucia.)

3. The threat of hurricanes is certainly real, but perhaps not as great as you might imagine. Only one has hit the Caribbean before July 8 in the last decade -- Hurricane Dennis, a Category 3 storm, which passed just east and north of Jamaica on July 7, 2005, producing hurricane conditions on the island. (This year the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration projects a ''near normal or above normal'' hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30 with the peak typically occurring from mid-August to mid-October.)

4. Did we mention that prices are lower?

This summer, rooms at Ritz-Carlton Golf and Spa Resort, Rose Hall, in Jamaica can be had for as little as $199 a night compared with $509 in mid-March. Starting rates at the Four Seasons Resort in Nevis drop to $335 a night from $490, and families traveling with children 18 or under can get a second room for half the cost or as low as $167.50 a night.

Despite the overall trend in rising airfares, prices of Caribbean packages, including airline tickets, are down 16 percent compared with peak travel, according to CheapTickets.com. That travel Web site is offering five-night getaways from Chicago starting at $769 a person to the Gran Meliã Puerto Rico in San Juan in June, and $1,345 a person at Aruba's Hyatt Regency hotel in July from New York. FunJet Vacations has been offering three-night trips including airfare for as low as $650 a person from New York to Aruba or $765 a person to Barbados.

In some cases, practically entire islands are on sale. St. Maarten, the United States Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands are all offering island-wide summer promotions including a night free at a bevy of resorts and discounts for tourist activities. The islands themselves are getting a lot more aggressive about trying to lure visitors over the slower summer months with festivals that show off what the island has to offer in the way of food, history, culture or music. Each summer, for example, Barbados celebrates Crop Over (www.barbados.org/cropover.htm), a festival that can be traced back to the late 1780s, as a way to mark the end of the sugar-cane cutting season. Today, it's a tourist draw involving calypso competitions and parades. Last year, Bonaire created the water-oriented Dive into Summer event (www.bonairediveintosummer.com), which it plans to repeat this year. Grenada's Carnival, one of the island's biggest festivals, begins in July and gains momentum leading up to Carnival Sunday, usually in the second week of August.

Kiawah Island - "Ideal Family Vacation"

My favorite Coastal Getaway

My family and I have been visiting this beautiful coastal area for over seven years and keep coming back. We have found coastal South Carolina to be a “retreat” to relaxation from our fast paced lifestyles in Chicago. For those that do not know, Kiawah Island is located about a half hour south west of Charleston. Kiawah Island is an inter-coastal paradise that boasts about 10 miles of pristine beaches. The allure is not only the sandy beaches, but the network of jogging/bike trails throughout the island that provide visitors a chance to experience close up views of some amazing wildlife. The one thing you will not find in Kiawah, is the hustle and bustle of commercialism. The island is quiet and peaceful. That being said, there are plenty of things to do for the fitness enthusiasts, couch potatoes, and nature lovers alike. Here are some of the things that one can take advantage of when visiting Kiawah:

1. Walks on the beach. This is what keeps us coming back every year. There are miles of shoreline suitable for sunbathing, jogging, biking, etc.

2. World class golfing. This is so true. The island courses are darn right challenging and can be pricey depending on your budget. Sometimes it pays to book your visit with resorts that may offer seasonal or weekend golf packages. I usually opt to play two or three courses that are just off the island and considerably cheaper. There are several courses in the Charleston area as well.

3. Travel the island by bike. This may be the best way to see the island. The inter coastal/marsh views can be spectacular. This is also a good opportunity to see some of the critters of the island (deer, alligators, bobcats, etc.). The other great feature with these island bikes is they are suitable for riding on the beach.

4. Go kayaking or canoeing on the inter-coastal. As mentioned in #3 above, this is a great way to see the wildlife in their native habitats.
Shell collecting. This activity is a good way to bring home some souvenirs of your visit to the island. This one goes with #1.

5. Fishing & Crabbing. The island offers fishing charters as well as crabbing supplies to try your luck at catching some local seafood.

6. Visit Newton farms. This is a good place to load up on groceries for those meals you want to prepare yourself. In addition there are a variety of stores that cater to all interests (clothing, ice cream shop, etc). There is even a Internet cafe should you feel to send a quick hello e-mail back home.

7. Visit the Sanctuary. This is the premier hotel on the island. I personally haven't stayed here, but the grounds are beautiful with great amenities such as large pool, health spa, and few first class restaurants. Hotel offers wireless internet capability so I usually check my e-mail here in the lobby while sipping a coffee watching the ocean.

8. World class tennis facilities. There are several tennis courts on this island that offer court rental as well as instruction. Good place to practice up on your game.

9. Night Heron Park..........Large recreation area is great place to take kids to burn off energy. Features basketball courts, soccer fields, pool, and many other activities. There is also a neat nature museum that features some of the local critters found on the island.

10. Take a drive into Charleston. It is about a half hour drive from Kiawah. We usually go into Charleston a few times a week to get our barbeque fix at Sticky Fingers as well as satisfy our seafood appetites.

Beachwalker County Park Destination

You don’t have to stay on Kiawah to gain access to the beautiful beach. Just before the gate entrance to the Island, take an immediate right and proceed down Beachwalker Drive to Kiawah’s Beachwalker Park. This park is one of many Charleston County Parks throughout the area. The park is situated on the very west end of the island and offers a good sample of the key attractions to the Island which is its great beaches. While this part of the island is considered “public” there is a small fee charged by the county for vehicles ($7.00).
The park is open from March through October with life guards on duty during the peak season (warmer months). The park also has several amenities such as concessions, picnic areas, chair and umbrella rentals, showers, and dressing rooms. Pets are also allowed as long as they are leashed.
For those staying in or near Charleston and have never experienced Kiawah, I recommend a day spent at Beachwalker County park to get a good sampling of Kiawah life. The experience of the Island is not only phenomenal on the ocean side. The park also offers up river access where one can view the beauty of the intercoastal habitat featuring several different species of wildlife such as herons, bobcats, gators, and blue crabs. A day spent at Beachwalker may be all you need to be hooked on this fun destination.

I love to plop down in the sand, enjoy something cool to drink, and people watch. This is a great spot for beginner surfers as well as the more advanced. I say grab your short board, your flip flops, a towel, and head to the beach. I really like Mission Beach. We got to enjoy an afternoon at the beach during our trip to San Diego. The sand was great to walk on and the water was cold, but not as cold as it would be in Northern California. Just walking the beach was pure happiness for me. To get all the adventure in this city there are many cheap hotels in san diego. We found a nice little rock area near Mission Bay and enjoyed the landscape and the tranquility. The water is perfect. I wish I loved near the beach, but it is always nice to visit.
